We've tried really hard to not pass on any of our "irrational" fears or food preferences to Elliot. So even though I hate onions, I feed them to him. And even though Eric hates snakes, we'll show them to him when I find them in the garden. But today I failed!
Elliot needed to go potty so we went to the toilet and he said there was an "owie" in there (owies are hair that isn't on the head - like on the ground or in his mouth). He went to reach to get it out and I told him not to take things out of the toilet but right as I was reaching for his hand he touched the "owie" and it moved across the bowl of the toilet. As I saw the spider that was bigger than a golf ball (I'M NOT KIDDING) we both screamed and jumped back. I screamed b/c it was way too big to be in my house and I think Elliot screamed b/c the sudden movement startled him and then my scream just reinforced his feelings. Poor guy.
I ended up flushing the thing, but Elliot was wary to go potty after that. He finally went, but only after I explained the spider was all gone and down the toilet like his stink and he looked inside to make sure. I felt so bad for the kid I had to confess to someone! Thanks for being here!

Irrational fears my ass! It is okay to be terrified of a golf ball sized spider in your toilet.....now I am off to buy some depends as I will never use a toilet again. Thanks for that.
I freak out whenever I see a bee or spider, but Bailee still wants to pick them up and try to pet them. Aren't you glad Elliot found it before you sat down later...
I am pretty sure I would not want to go to the bathroom either. Yuck, yuck,yuck. You are an amazing mom Pearcia. Sometimes fear of animals that could potentially harm us is good. We'll help them differentiate later. Loved having Eric at mom's group last tuesday. I think Elliot had fun too. He skipped in excitement when he saw Asher.
Yikes! I'm sure I would have reacted the same way. I hate spiders - especially ones the size of golf balls! Eek! Is he back to normal with the potty since the spider incident?
